Big Sky Stearman
Howard DGA-15P, N53H, Serial 873
Big Sky has obtained a Howard DGA-15P which we will restore to its former flying glory. The aircraft has an interesting Alaska history flying out of Bethel, Alaska on the Kuskokwim river.
N53H has some Jobmaster improvements such as the pilot door and float fittings for the Edo 6470 float. It is our intention to use the 6470 floats off our Bellanca Pacemaker which went to Hawaiaan Airlines and put them on the Howard. Then it's off to the lakes and waterways of the Pacific Northwest!
Big Sky will be building new wings for the Howard and will plan on supplying owner produced wood wing components and repairs for the Howard community. We will try to keep the web site current with progress reports on the wing build. Please contact John at Big Sky if you have any interest in obtaining help on Howard wing repair and rebuilds.
-Fuel tanks repaired and installed in fuselage
-Big Sky technician Kevin Pearson is putting the finishing touches on the Howard Pratt Whitney R985 engine.
- A wood wing kit has been prepared for the rebuilding on the Howard wings, ailerons and flaps.
